IN RESPONSE TO A TWEET A SAW THIS MORNING FROM SOMEONE IN JAMAICA ABOUT YOUNG ARTISTS IN JAMAICA NOT BEING LOYAL & THIS IS MASHING UP THE INDUSTRY

Here is the truth…. A lot of people (managers, producers, promoters, selectors, agents etc) hang around a young artist because they see the talent and they want to be able to say I played a part in making this person a star, when they get to stardom. But let me say this, just as how there is this big talk about emerging artists needs to be loyal once they “buss” so too everyone else must be loyal when they don’t “buss”. I cannot find the words to tell you what it takes to develop a career in this music business and we, the “emerging” artists suffer in silence.

Do you know that there are days when we have no food because that money went to studio or to pay some bill for promotion or something to help build our career? Do you know that sometimes when we travel to go do shows in other countries we are treated with absolutely no respect because according to some of the promoters “we no have no name yet”? And don’t even get me started on how radio and TV personalities treat us when we approach them for some time on their show…… I can go on and on

Anyone wanting to work with a young artist please understand that I don’t think most young artist are disloyal as they are now saying, but just as how you want us to commit to you when we become big stars so too you should commit to us when we are suffering before we become big stars. The best way to show your commitment is by SIGNING A LEGAL DOCUMENT WHICH TIES OUR FAITHS TOGETHER AND HONORING THAT DOCUMENT.  That means on days when your artist is hungry you will be hungry too, if they diss your artist then they diss you too. Then you are really suffering with the artist and deserve to be rewarded when the artist starts getting rewarded.

There is a huge difference in doing this and that for an artist now and again verses committing to them 100%.

That is just my opinion which is based on my experience so far as an artist. I want to encourage all young artists to keep working, stay focus and block out everybody I mean everybody including all the people cheering you on from the side lines.. all that’s important is your music, your message and the players on the field hustling with you to score the next goal.

We will get there
